Writer’s Room 2013 – Call for transmedia projects

Deadline for applications: October 31st, 2012

The Writer’s Room, realized in collaboration with Power to the Pixel, focuses on the process of developing two transmedia projects within a team framework.

For the first time we open a Call for projects and invite the main author of a transmedia project to apply. In the past two editions projects were only scouted.

Two projects will be selected to participate in the Writer’s Room 2013. Projects are considered eligible when they are fiction-based narratives and extend to more than one platform. Projects with a feature film element included will be prioritized, yet projects without or with a different driving platform (TV-series, docu, web series…) will also be considered.

In addition to the 2 authors with projects, 3 transmedia developers will be

selected to join the workshop process, thereby completing the Writer’s Room team. A specific call will be launched on November 1st, 2012 (deadline: December 10th, 2012).

About the Writer’s Room process

The selected team works together under the guidance of tutor and story editor Gino Ventriglia. Additional trainers with backgrounds in i.e. web and game development will also be brought in to provide insight and feedback. The group will workshop the two projects through 9 months of development, demonstrating a four-step process:

Discovery, Research, Brainstorm and Prioritization. This hands-on experience will allow participants to hone their skills while being part of a team, learning how to work with other professionals on creating an interdisciplinary transmedia project.

The two authors are of course expected to contribute to each other’s projects during this process. Focus areas will be decided depending on the needs of the projects and the combined sets of experiences in the group. The aim of the workshop is to enrich the projects by exploring and analyzing various components (live events, web, mobile apps, games, film, etc.), looking at how to best develop, write, envision and plan them.

The group will present the results of their work at the TorinoFilmLab Meeting Event in November 2013 and in our Book of Projects, which is presented on-line and in print.

Who can apply?

The Writer’s Room is aimed at professionals working across different platforms and media, such as story architects, games writers, audience engagement designers, online content developers, writers (script, TV, journalists etc.) and producers, who have experience within cross-media production.
